Palliative care is a term derived from Latin ‘Palliare’, “to cloak.” It refers to specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses. It is focused on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain and stress of a serious illness. These people need a special kind of treatment and emphasis must be placed on compassion and friendliness. While some of these diseases might be terminal not all of them are and patients are always treated with compassion and consideration for their condition.
Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home is working with Hospice of Buffalo to create a dedicated 10 bed Hospice Unit. With their partnership, we will be able to meet the needs and serve those residents who are in the hospice program. We are proud to be continuing our partnership with Hospice of Buffalo and excited to be able to better meet the needs of those that we serve. Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home is able to provide much more specialized care through our partnership with Buffalo Hospice.
Williamsville Suburban Nursing Home is also excited to be partnering with the University of Rochester to take part in a national study called IMPACT- Improving Palliative Care Through Teamwork. This program will serve as an additional level of care provided to those residents who are not yet ready for the hospice program.
With the help of Senior Medical Partners, Williamsville Suburban will train all of our employees to assist in relieving the symptoms of diseases, and pain and stress of a serious illness. The facility is honored to have been selected to take part in this study and continue to see the impact of this program in the care we provide.
